Epigenetics: the death of the genetic theory of disease transmission dispels misinformation from the dogma propagated by our current medical institutions and explains why many established doctors are resistant to change. Epigenetics is of vital importance to anyone who wants real knowledge about how the human body functions, and how to apply that knowledge to our nutritional needs. Epigenetics lays the foundation to healthier, happier lives, for ourselves and for generations to come.

B i o

Author and narrator of the country's most famous audiocassette, Dead Doctor's Don't Lie, approximately 40 million have been distributed since 1994, Dr. Joel Wallach is simply a man with a mission.

Born and raised in Missouri, Dr. Joel D. Wallach attended the University of Missouri, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Science of Agriculture. A veterinarian for 30 years, he worked as a research veterinary pathologist with The National Institute of Health for The Center for the Biology of Natural Systems, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri; and Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center in Atlanta, Georgia, at Emory University.

Having discovered and identified the first animal models for cystic fibrosis - monkeys - he found that he could reproduce their condition at will because it was a nutritional deficiency. His find offered great promise for children with the disease, but when he made it public, the institute fired him on a 24-hour notice. Chagrined and perplexed, Dr. Wallach made the decision to go to medical school so he could treat children for cystic fibrosis himself.

He later accepted an invitation to teach nutrition at The National College of , Naturopathic Medicine in Oregon, and eventually became a primary care physician with a Naturopathic Degree - delivering babies, sewing up chainsaw wounds, writing prescriptions and getting paid by insurance - all through a program that encouraged interest in nutrition. Soon people began flocking to his clinics in Oregon.

During the late 80's and early 90's, through further education and work experience, Dr. Wallach became committed to educating as many people as he could about the importance minerals were to the human body. He started writing his now famous book, "Let's Play Doctor," soon followed by "Forbidden Cures," and he began network marketing for a company that sold colloidal minerals. Soon there were thousands of people waiting to hear Dr. Wallach lecture about nutrition and supplementation, and even millions more who purchased his books, videos and audiocassettes.

In 1997, Dr. Wallach established his very own company, American Longevity, in sunny San Diego, California. Dr. Wallach's dream of offering a full service Network Marketing Company for the New Millennium with the very best nutritional, household and skin care products finally became a reality. He then went further and made sure that his company would be a "distributor friendly" organization with a strong support staff, well-built infrastructure and a debt-free balance sheet - all of which guaranteed potential network marketers that American Longevity was here to stay.

Today, Dr. Wallach continues with his mission to educate every single American and others abroad about the importance of supplementation. He presents his powerful series 300+ days each year and without fail, broadcasts his widely popular syndicated radio program "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" each afternoon - live - wherever he may be.

Dr. Wallach has built his reputation on cutting-edge nutrition products, his commitment to all network marketers being able to earn a residual income for life, and to making American Longevity a family legacy for everyone - not just another corporate profit machine!

10 Exercises to Tone Your Legs and Butt At Home (With Illustrations)

Have you always wanted to strengthen your legs without using expansive exercise leg machine ?  I’ve collected for you the best exercises for shaping your legs, your thighs and your butt and the best part is, you don’t need any workout machine but yourself to hit a whole range of lower body muscles.

Did you know that the leg muscles are some of the strongest and largest in the body and form a significant portion of a person’s mass? And no wonder why – the leg muscles support and balance your body. These muscles move the bones to create movement such as standing, walking, running, jumping and similar activities.

There are many muscles in the leg and they are broken into two groups: the upper leg muscles and the lower leg muscles. The upper and lower leg muscles can be further divided into front (anterior) and back (posterior) leg muscles.

Upper leg muscles – The primary front leg muscles are also called the thigh muscles which are responsible for extending or straightening the leg. The muscles at the back of the upper leg are often called the hamstrings, which are responsible for flexing or bending the leg. Sometimes the glutes (gluteus maximus), or “butt” muscles, running from the pelvis to the upper thigh are also considered leg muscles.

Lower leg muscles – At the front of the lower leg there are the shin muscles which are responsible for bending the foot upwards at the ankle and for sideways flexion and extension of the foot at the ankle. At the back of the lower leg there are the calf muscles which pull up the heel and extend the foot during walking and running.

2. Squats

glutes leg lift

Squats are great for strengthening the thighs and the butt. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands stretched forward for extra balance. Now bend your knees and lower yourself – your knees should be nearly at a 90 degree angle and your thighs are parallel to the floor (see illustration). Don’t forget to keep your back straight and don’t let your knees extend over your toes. Then get up back to starting position. Perform 2 sets of 15-20 repetition.

6 Reasons You’re Tired All The Time & How To Beat Fatigue

You feel so tired and low in energy that you don’t even want to leave the bed. It’s morning, but you wish it was evening, so you could slumber back to sleep in a guilt-less way. Even going to the bathroom feels like a chore. We all have these zombie-like days sometimes. But if they persist day after day, and you drag yourself around for weeks or months on end, then it’s time to look at what could be causing your fatigue. Here are some possibilities:

1. Nutritional deficiencies and what you eat

We eat to get fuel. Just like a car, to keep running, our body needs refueling. We need food for all our metabolic functions. Metabolism is a set of chemical reactions that take place in your cells. It breaks the food down, and provides energy for the body’s functioning. There you go, your own little alchemy lab. The key is to get the right fuel. And this is where many people get it wrong.

You don’t eat enough good fats

There is this fear of fats in the Western society. People started cutting on fats, but they replaced them with refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, pastas and white rice. When you do that, you get it wrong twice. Not only are processed carbs bad for you and cause sugar crash, by eliminating fats, you are also depriving yourself of a valuable energy source. Fats are body’s best and slowest-burning form of energy – you just need to get the right ones.

There are three types of fats: saturated, non-saturated and trans fats (AKA trans fatty acids). Saturated and trans fats clog the arteries and are the real bad boys. You have to look for food that contains less saturated fats and/or trans fats and is rich in what we call essential fatty acids. Foods like avocados, nuts and fish contain them and should definitely feature on your menu.

Further reading: read my previous articles about the amazing health benefits of nuts and seeds, 11 healthy reasons to eat avocado, 9 important reasons to consume more omega 3 fatty acids, and the amazing health benefits of olive oil.

You eat inflammatory foods

Certain foods are also known as inflammatory foods and can cause food intolerances. Gluten and diary can cause fatigue, so you might want to start by eliminating them from your diet and see if that changes anything.

Further reading: read my articles about 10 symptoms of gluten sensitivity you probably didn’t know about, how to easily make healthy and easy homemade milk substitutes and discover better sources of calcium than dairy products.

You have vitamin and mineral deficiencies

Different vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause a chronic feeling of tiredness too. The most important to look out for are iron, vitamin D and B vitamins. Iron deficiency, known as anemia, is especially common in women with heavy menstrual periods.

TOP 9 Warning Signs of Vitamin D Deficiency

The importance of vitamin D is well known. As far back as the 1930s, doctors first recognized the link between a vitamin D deficiency and the skeletal disease called rickets. Rickets causes a softening of the bones and teeth.

Even if someone's diet has adequate levels of calcium, without enough vitamin D to properly control calcium and phosphate levels in the blood stream, demineralization of the bones can take place. The symptoms of rickets include bowed legs, bone pain, dental problems, a widening of the wrists, frequent bone fractures and skull deformities.

Because rickets is seldom seen in first-world countries, it's easy to think that vitamin D deficiencies are a thing of the past. However, new research has recently shed light on other, more subtle, symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency.

Many illnesses which, at first glance, seem totally unrelated to something as physically obvious as rickets actually may have their roots in a lack of vitamin D.

Just what is vitamin D?

The term vitamin D, according to the Mayo Clinic's Drugs and Supplements site (1), actually refers to several different forms of the vitamin, including D2, which comes from our diet, and D3, which is manufactured by our skin when exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D's main purpose in the body is to regulate blood levels of calcium and phosphorous.

The sunshine vitamin?

It's actually hard to get enough vitamin D from a normal diet. It's found at the highest concentration in fatty fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon. Some mushrooms are also high in D, and their level of the vitamin actually increases when exposed to ultraviolet light.

While our skin does manufacture some of the vitamin D that we need daily, sun exposure alone is usually not enough. Factors such as the time of year, the angle of the sun, cloud cover, pollution levels and even the use of sunscreen can greatly limit the amount of D made by our skin.

The 4 Most Dangerous Toxins to Your Brain

If you had to name the toxins that posed the most danger to the human brain, what would you say? Would your guesses be some of the toxins that we find in our air, food, or water supply?

Probably, since they are all around us. While there are countless toxic compounds infiltrating our bodies and causing disease, there are 4 toxins which are especially prevalent and dangerous. This is both good news and bad, as they can likely be avoided.

These toxins can do horrific damage, but knowing about them and where to find them can save you from their wrath.

4. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

This is an additive found in processed foods. It’s known as an excitotoxin primarily used as a “flavor enhancer”. The problem, Henry says, is that the compound can damage the brain, potentially leading to things like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other long term ailments.

Additionally, a new study published in the Journal of Headache Pain reveals that just a single dose of monosodium glutamate (MSG) caused headaches in healthy subjects that were tested.

While some foods will list MSG outright on their labels, it’s one of those things that has multiple alternative names.

To avoid it, look for things like: yeast extract, soy sauce, soy protein, whey protein, textured protein, natrium glutamate, hydrolyzed protein, gelatin, autolyzed yeast, or any of the ingredients listed here.

SUGAR is Alzheimer's Best Friend: It Damages Brain Structure and Function

Alzheimer's disease, a severe form of dementia, affects an estimated 5.2 million Americans, according to 2013 statistics. [1]

One in nine seniors over the age of 65 has Alzheimer's, and the disease is now thought to be the third leading cause of death in the US, right behind heart disease and cancer.

A growing body of research suggests there's a powerful connection between your diet and your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, via similar pathways that cause type 2 diabetes.

Contrary to popular belief, your brain does not require glucose, and actually functions better burning alternative fuels, especially ketones, which your body makes in response to digesting healthy fats.

According to some experts, such as Dr. Ron Rosedale, Alzheimer's and other brain disorders may in large part be caused by the constant burning of glucose for fuel by your brain.

Alzheimer's disease was tentatively dubbed "type 3 diabetes" in early 2005 when researchers discovered that in addition to your pancreas, your brain also produces insulin, and this brain insulin is necessary for the survival of brain cells.

Sugar Damages Brain Structure and Function

In your brain, insulin helps with neuron glucose-uptake and the regulation of neurotransmitters, such as acetylcholine, which are crucial for memory and learning. This is why reducing the level of insulin in your brain impairs your cognition.

Research [2] has also shown that type 2 diabetics lose more brain volume with age than expected — particularly gray matter. This kind of brain atrophy is yet another contributing factor for dementia.

New Robotic Device Adds Two Extra Fingers to the Human Hand

http://themindunleashed.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/7-fingerrr.jpg

A robotic “glove” that adds two extra fingers to a human hand was designed by researchers from the University of MIT.

Fingers of the robotic device are moving synchronously with the natural ones, without requiring the user to give commands, thereby significantly enhancing the ability of handling the objects.

“This is a completely intuitive and natural way to move your robotic fingers. You do not need to command the robot, but simply move your fingers naturally. Then the robotic fingers react and assist your fingers,” says Professor Harry Asada of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, who led the project.

The MIT researchers, who presented their invention at the Robotics: Science and Systems conference in Berkeley, California, said that their device could help people who are amputees, have limited dexterity, or those who want to lift heavy objects.

The robotic fingers are using software algorithms that enable them to move in sync with the natural fingers. The two artificial fingers are located at both ends of the hand, one next to the thumb, and the other next to the small finger.

5 Types of Medicinal Mushrooms and How They Boost Health

http://themindunleashed.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/differentt-1050x698.jpg

Different species of mushrooms have valuable benefits.

Understanding how food interacts with our bodies and the role it plays in healing various health conditions can be helpful. Whether food is used as part of a medical treatment or a prevention-focused diet, knowledge is power. Though some may disregard medicinal food, medical researchers have proven how prescriptive diets have been used to minify health risks. One such functional food is mushrooms. There are currently 38,000 discovered and classified species of mushrooms that hold medicinal benefits.

In the last two decades there has been widespread interest in the role of the immune system for maintaining good health. According to a study on medicinal mushrooms, diseases related to immune dysfunction “such as cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, AIDS/HIV, hepatitis and autoimmune conditions” are gaining wide attention from medical researchers and clinicians. As a result, practitioners are looking to mushrooms for their medicinal effects on the immune system.

The immune-strengthening benefits of certain fungi and their extracts have even shown to have an anti-cancer effect. While research foundations such as Cancer Research UK confirm that there is no evidence that mushrooms or mushroom extracts can prevent or cure cancer, specific fungi can prolong and improve the lives of cancer patients, as well as enhance their recovery process.

Given that medicinal mushrooms improve and modulate immune response, people from all over the world have used their medicinal properties to reduce health risks and boost the immune system. More specifically, research has indicated mushrooms have possible anti-cancer, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective (liver protective) properties.

20 Uses for Coca-Cola -- None of Which is Drinking it

Coke is the most valuable brand in history, and “Coca-Cola” is the world’s second-most recognized word after “hello.” However, the beverage itself is an absolute poison to the human metabolism.

Coke is very acidic, it’s only one point higher on the pH scale than battery acid. Consequently it can clean surfaces equivalent to and often better than many toxic household cleaners.

It’s cheaper and easier to buy Coke in some third world countries than it is to access clean water. Coke uses “public relations propaganda” to convince consumers and entire nations that it is an “environmental company” when really it is linked to pollution, water shortages, and disease.

This bathtub was allegedly cleaned with Coca-Cola. Further reference here.

People who consume soft drinks such as Coke have a 48% increase in heart attack and stroke risk, compared to people who did not drink the sodas at all or did not drink them every day.

A study published in the journal Respirology reveals that soft drink consumption is also associated with lung and breathing disorders including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The carbonation in Coke causes calcium loss in the bones through a 3-stage process:
  1. The carbonation irritates the stomach.
  2. The stomach “cures” the irritation the only way it knows how. It adds the only antacid at its disposal: calcium. It gets this from the blood.
  3. The blood, now low on calcium, replenishes its supply from the bones. If it did not do this, muscular and brain function would be severely impaired.
But, the story doesn’t end there. Another problem with most Coke is it also contain phosphoric acid (not the same as the carbonation, which is carbon dioxide mixed with the water). Phosphoric acid also causes a draw-down on the body’s store of calcium.

10 Sneaky Habits That Sabotage Your Heart

We know that our heart is one of the hardest working and important organs in the body. We also are well aware of habits that are terrible for it. Harvard Medical School recently released five strategic ways to avoid destructive habits and potentially save your life by:

  • Steer clear of smoking habits, such as tobacco, and avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Get out for at least a half hour every day and get active.
  • Maintain a weight that is healthy for your body type.
  • Eat a diverse diet of meat, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, while avoiding processed food.
  • Keep your alcohol consumption to a reasonable level, around 1-2 drinks a day for men and only about 1 for women.

It doesn’t take a prestigious institution to figure out these solutions to heart health, as they are quite obvious. But smoking, diet, and fitness aren’t the only dangers to your health. These 10 less known habits could present a danger to your heart health and should be avoided at all costs.

1. Neglecting a thorough brush and floss routine

Believe it or not your teeth play a much larger role in overall health than you may think. The act of brushing and flossing regularly ensures a lot more than an attractive set of pearly whites. The General Dentistry Academy recently found that ¾ of Americans have a type of gum disease, namely from neglecting to floss. Medical research has suggested a link between gum disease and heart issues. So visit regularly your dentist and also read my previous article how to treat gum infection naturally.

10 Reasons to Drink Coconut Water That You Probably Didn’t Know About

Coconut water, coconut milk and coconut oil are the products we often associate with palm trees and tropical climate. Coconut water is packed with nutrients that yield an array of health benefits. It is 95 percent water and is extracted from young coconuts. There is usually some soft meat on the inside walls of the coconut which you can happily spoon out and enjoy the jelly-like treat. Coconut milk is what is used in Asian cuisine to thicken all those yummi curries. To get coconut milk, coconut meat is grinded and diluted with water. Coconut oil is also made out of coconut meat, which is shredded and then squeezed to obtain this supper- healthy oil. You can apply it on your skin and hair, or use it for cooking. For extra health benefits, go for the cold pressed unrefined oil. Coconut oil has an array of health benefits which you can read about in my previous article about the health benefits of coconut oil.

1. Prevents dehydration
Coconut water is great for rehydration: it’s refreshing, contains essential electrolytes, and is as close to sterile as you’ll get. It’s also ecological and a good alternative to bottled water, especially in places where you can’t drink tap water. Coconut water is a source of five important minerals: potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium and phosphorus. It can be a particularly suitable drink after you’ve done some strenuous exercise. If you’ve sweated a lot, add a pinch of Himalayan salt to coconut water and make it even more worthwhile.

2. Fuels the brain and muscles
Coconut water contains 295 mg of potassium, which means that one cup of this tropical drink has more potassium than a banana. Potassium regulates heartbeat and muscle function. The electrolytes facilitate nervous system functioning and nerve transmission as well as better cognitive functioning. You can find here more tips on how to improve your brain function naturally.

Scientists Find Sniffing Rosemary Can Increase Memory By 75%

http://themindunleashed.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/sniffinggg.png

Rosemary has many well known health benefits but scientists are now studying its specific effects with regard to memory with outstanding results.

Rosemary is a wonderful herb with a tradition of use spanning millennia. It has innumerable uses in both the kitchen and in herbal medicine.

Did you know that rosemary has been associated with memory enhancement since ancient times? It is true – and it has even been referred to from the latter part of the Elizabethan Era to the Early Romantic period as the herb of remembrance. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Ophelia says, “There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance.” (Hamlet, iv. 5.) It has also long been used as a symbol for remembrance during weddings, war commemorations and funerals in Europe and Australia. [1] Mourners in old times would wear it as a buttonhole, burn it as incense or throw it into graves as a symbol of remembrance for the dead.

It seems that this tradition of Rosemary may actually far more ancient and have its origins in the Arabic world of medieval times, which was greatly advanced in science: In Henry Lyte’s 1578 “Niewe Herball“, an English version of Rembert Dodoens’ French treatise, it is written

“The Arrabians and their successors Physitions, do say that Rosemarie comforteth the brayne, the memory and the inward senses, and that it restoreth speech, especially the conserve made of the flowers, thereof with Sugar, to be received daily.”

Turmeric (Curcumin) Shown to Possess a Powerful Anti-Aging Effect

The latest, and most likely, program theory of aging is the telomere shortening theory. Telomeres are the end-cap segments of DNA (our genetic material). Each time a cell replicates, a small piece of DNA is taken off the end of each chromosome. The shorter the telomere gets, the more it affects gene expression. The result is cellular aging and an increased risk for immune dysfunction, heart disease, cancerAlzheimer’s disease, and other degenerative diseases.

New research shows that curcumin, the yellow pigment of turmeric (Curcuma longa), may exert significant benefit in preventing telomere shortening and may actually promote elongation of telomeres.

Background Information

The key to slowing down the aging process and extending maximal human lifespan will ultimately involve preserving or restoring telomere length to the DNA (as well as decreasing chromosomal damage, cellular oxidation, and many other factors). Several measures have already been shown to achieve this goal:
  • Simply adopting a comprehensive dietary and lifestyle change consistent with good health has been shown to preserve telomere length.
  • Physical exercise has been shown to be associated with preserving telomere length.
  • Meditation has been shown to preserve telomere length by reducing the negative effects of stress.
  • Higher vitamin D levels are associated with longer telomeres
  • Since levels of inflammatory markers in the blood correlate with telomere shortening, natural strategies that reduce inflammation are very important in reducing the rate of telomere shortening.
